FAQ: FAQ

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF / YOUR CHILD

  • What does my child want to get out of the club experience?

  • Does my child want to play in high school? At what level in college?

  • Does my child just want to enjoy the game and play with friends?

  • What is my child’s priority for allocating free time: job, activities with friends, other club sports, etc.?

  • Can my child keep up with school work?

  • How does each program compare to one another?

  • Can we afford the program we choose? What's included in their club fees?

  • How important is it that we, as parents, travel with our child? Can we save money if our child travels with the team?

WHAT AGE GROUPS DO YOU OFFER?

Our club will focus on player’s ages 11-18. We hope to have teams in the following age groups – 12’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, 16’s, 17’s, and 18’s. The final age groups, team levels, number of teams will depend on the number and skill level of players participating in tryouts. The number of athletes that tryout could influence if some ages are combined into one team. Example there could possibly be a combined team made up of 12U and 13U players that would compete in a 13U division. Players are allowed to play in age groups above their age, but not below. Your age group can be determined by your age on September 1 of the current year or by using the Carolina Region's Age Eligibility Chart.

HOW MANY TEAMS DO YOU HAVE AT EACH AGE LEVEL?

CEVC has a goal to field a minimum of 1 team in each age group. We will have as many teams in each age group as long as we feel it is a competitive team. The more popular ages like 16’s could possibly field 2 or more teams.

CEVC will also strive to offer developmental teams that will compete in local and/or regional tournaments.

***CEVC does not mix National Teams with Developmental Teams***

HOW MUCH IS IT TO TRYOUT?

Tryout registration payment of $50 is due at the door. "Early bird" tryout registration is discounted to $35. We accept cash or checks made out to Carolina Evolution Volleyball Club. The Non Refundable tryout fee covers the cost of the court and staff fees.

WHAT ARE YOUR MEMBERSHIP FEES?

Our club dues start at $1,200.00 for 12U to 14U. Each team fee could vary slightly depending on the number of National tournaments played and the length of the season, travel & coaching staff. Please see our Travel Team page for more information.

WHAT IS CLUB VOLLEYBALL?

Club volleyball is an opportunity for volleyball players of varying abilities to continue their development past the fall school season. USA Volleyball (USAV) is the national governing body and is responsible for local, regional, national and international rules and competition. USAV is divided into 40 regions. We fall under the Carolina Region Volleyball Association which includes 2 regions – East and West. Each year, players and teams must become members of USA Volleyball in order to participate in practice and tournament play. Club volleyball or Junior Olympic volleyball consists of regionally organized and governed training programs for boys and girls interested in obtaining advanced level training and competition in the sport of volleyball. Players participate after or before their school volleyball season and compete against other club programs. Club volleyball also works to promote the sport of volleyball and to teach the skills needed for a lifetime of play. Club volleyball is much like select soccer and softball. There are open tryouts for team selections after which teams will practice 2-3 times a week and play a tournament every few weekends for 4 – 6 months.

HOW DO YOU SELECT YOUR PLAYERS?

Players attend an open tryout consisting of physical testing, skill testing, mental resiliency, and game situations. Each age division tryout will be different based on needs and number of athletes trying out. Coaches will evaluate during tryouts. Naturally, the better your skills are, the higher probability of your selection. Please know that skill is not the only factor considered by a particular coach. Each team needs to be balanced in all positions, so the POSITION that you play, or appear to be able to play, may be a factor. If you are the third best player at tryouts, and also the third best setter, you may not be selected unless the coach feels that he/she can easily train you into another position. Some coaches may factor in general athleticism and movement on the court. For others, attitude and team focus as well as a clear enthusiasm for volleyball are an important part of the equation. In all cases, the coaches will consider you not just on your own but as part of the team they are creating as they go through the selection process. Tryouts are a learning experience. Attend several tryouts or clinics to increase your comfort with the process. At any tryout, we like when players are loud, have positive energy and show great hustle. We also look for positive attitudes and passion for the sport.

IS PLAYING TIME GUARANTEED?

Playing time is NOT guaranteed for anyone. Playing time is earned during practices and is left to the discretion of the coach. Club dues cover practice times, not playing time. Of course, everyone wants to play as much as possible in competitive matches, but in terms of player development, time spent in practice is more valuable than game time.

WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW OFTEN DO YOU PRACTICE?

Our practices are held at 4221 Black Bridge Road, Hope Mills, NC. We train a minimum of two times per week and attendance is expected. Practice times are based on the team and age groups. Our travel teams practice between 4-12 hours per week. A weekly workout can consist of a minimum of 2 hours positional training, 2 hours rotations and strategy, 3 hours muscular strength and endurance training, and/or 3 hours high intensity interval training (HiiT). All practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7 to 9PM. HiiT sessions are optional and are held on Saturdays and Sundays.
